City of Greenville Partners with The Blood Connection to Boost Local Blood Donations

The Blood Connection is partnering with the City of Greenville to encourage local blood donations by hosting two community blood drives in May.

As the sole blood provider for all Upstate hospitals, donating blood with The Blood Connection is the only way to ensure blood donations stay local and help the Greenville community.

After a critical blood supply situation to start 2022, blood donor turnout is still at a concerning level.  Some crucial blood types have dipped to dangerous levels in the past month.  The Blood Connection is thankful to the City of Greenville for their partnership in encouraging local blood donations and hosting these blood drives.

“As this community’s blood center, donating with The Blood Connection ensures that our local hospitals have access to the critical blood products they need to save lives,” said Delisa English, President and CEO of The Blood Connection.  “Our local hospitals rely on community blood donors and we at TBC are grateful to the City of Greenville for amplifying this message and sharing the importance of donating local.”

“As a city, we’re always looking for ways to support each other,” said Greenville Mayor Knox White. “There is no better way to do that than to donate much needed blood that will stay right here in our community. It’s an added bonus that we’ll be supporting local restaurants and retailers as well with Shop Downtown gift cards going to every donor.”

The Blood Connection (TBC) was founded in Greenville in 1962 as the Greenville Blood Assurance Plan.  Over the past sixty years, TBC has committed to meeting the needs of local hospitals and ensuring that blood donated locally supports local hospitals.  The Blood Connection is proud to be the sole blood provider for Prisma Health and Bon Secours St. Francis Health System, among many others across the region.

TBC and the City of Greenville will host two blood drives in May:

  • May 4 from 2 p.m. – 7 p.m. at the Sears Community Center (100 East Park Avenue Greenville, SC)
  • May 12 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Cleveland Park (150 Cleveland Park Drive Greenville, SC)

As a “thank you” for donating, and to encourage our community to donate and shop local, all blood donors will receive a $20 “Shop Downtown” eGift card that can be used at more than twenty stores in downtown Greenville.  Appointments are encouraged and can be made by going to thebloodconnection.org/gvl.  Walk-ins are also welcome.
