The City of Greenville will host four public meetings in September and October to provide information and gather feedback as the city begins the redistricting process.
The 2020 United States Census showed a shift in population density within the city limits, meaning districts are no longer balanced. The law requires population equity among the districts, so the City’s redistricting goal is to have four council districts that are as close to the same number of people as possible.
City Council members will make final decisions with input from City residents and assistance from staff on how the new lines are drawn. The upcoming meetings are the public’s first opportunity to provide input. No draft redistricting maps have yet been drawn; the City is seeking preliminary comments.
Public meetings will be held in each Council district. Residents can attend any of the meetings as the information shared will be the same. All meetings will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and include:
- Monday, September 19 – Nicholtown Community Center, 112 Rebecca Street (District 3)
- Thursday, September 22 – Greenville Technical College, Community Room/Auditorium, 506 S. Pleasantburg Drive (District 4)
- Monday, October 3 – Prisma Health Welcome Center at Unity Park, 111 Welborn Street (District 2)
- Monday, October 17 – Bobby Pearse Community Center, 904 Townes Street (District 1)
