New Augusta Road Fire Station Features Public Art

Artist Yuri Tsuzuki has created two signature public art pieces, the Guardians of Augusta and Ladders of Life, to celebrate the opening of the Augusta Road Fire Station 3.

Ladders of Life pays tribute to the invaluable role that the fire station plays within the community.  The artwork serves both as a landmark and a visual monument of gratitude to the Greenville City Fire Department.  The sculpture is composed of intersecting ladders, curved and abstracted, and words chosen by the fire fighters.  Honor.  Pride.  Integrity.

Beside the sculpture stands another smaller sculpture – Guardians of Augusta – a Dalmatian seated on a pedestal shaped like a fire hydrant.

Yuri Tsuzuki is an artist whose primary medium is steel. Her seemingly delicate, yet, steel sculptures take many forms, such as the butterfly art installations which flutter around the world. In her work, she focuses on the urban landscape – its physical and geographical properties. She is drawn to the confines of space and through the placement of her work, to create and define a new sense of place.
