Greenville County Schools Food and Nutrition Services (FANS) has changed its meal distribution sites to begin the implementation of the USDA Seamless Summer Option.
Nutritionally balanced meals will be provided to all children regardless of race, color, sex, disability, age or national origin during summer vacation when school breakfasts and lunches are not available. All children 18 years old and younger are eligible for meals at no charge and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service. The programs are only approved for geographical areas of need as determined by USDA.
Beginning June 8, FANS will serve meals at all elementary schools, with the exception of Bryson Elementary, Chandler Creek, and Summit Drive.
Bryson Elementary families can receive meals at Golden Strip Child Development Center. Meals will be provided Monday through Thursday from 10 am – 12 pm each day. On Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, each student will receive one breakfast and one lunch. On Thursdays, each student will receive eight meals – four breakfasts and four lunches. FANS will continue this schedule through Thursday, August 6.
Due to COVID-19 social distancing requirements, meals will be provided on a to-go basis only and will be served in the school’s student drop-off line. There will be no need for parents to exit their vehicles to obtain the meals.
USDA has provided flexibilities to allow the distribution of meals to adults to take home to children. Meals may be distributed to adults when children are not present if the adult is able to demonstrate proof of the child’s identity. Valid forms of identification may include, but are not limited to school identification card, school report card, child’s passport, birth certificate, government-issued child identification card, or any document proving parent/guardian identity and relationship to the child, such as an adoption decree, doctor, clinic, or hospital record, religious record, or daycare center record.
