The City of Greenville is taking additional steps to protect citizens and minimize opportunities to spread COVID-19 in our community.
Events Postponed Through May 10
Following new guidelines released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to halt gatherings of 50 or more people, and a White House advisory to avoid groups of more than ten, all city-permitted events scheduled through May 10 will be postponed. City officials will continue to work with event organizers in finding alternative date options. An updated listing of events will be live on gvilleevents.com within 24 hours.
“While we recognize this decision is undoubtedly disappointing, our top priority is protecting the health and well-being of our residents,” said City Manager John McDonough. “We will continue to be proactive in taking the appropriate measures to mitigate the spread of the virus and safeguard those who are at the highest risk.”
City Playgrounds and Fitness Stations Closed
The city is also closing all playgrounds and fitness station equipment effective Monday, March 16. Playground equipment is a “high touch” and “close contact” area. It cannot be cleaned frequently enough to prevent the spread of germs or the COVID-19 virus.
South Downtown Master Plan, Consolidated Plan Public Meetings Canceled
Due to the city’s COVID-19 Operations Plan, two public meetings scheduled for Wednesday, March 18, will be canceled. The South Downtown Master Plan and the Consolidated Plan public meetings will be rescheduled. The public will be notified when new meeting dates are set. Modified Operations Continue Citywide
- City employees advised to telecommute and minimize person-to-person contact
- Access to public buildings is restricted
- Payments will be accepted over the phone, online and by mail
- City Community Centers and the Greenville Zoo remain closed
- The City Council meeting on March 23 can be viewed online at greenvillesc.gov/meeting
