The Heritage Green Music Festival at the Carolina Music Museum closes its fall season on Friday, December 14 at 7:30 PM with a Jazz concert that originally featured the Steve Watson Jazz Trio but Steve has had to step down, albeit gingerly, from this concert for he is heading to the hospital for a hip replacement! In fact, he won’t even be able to resume his teaching position at the Fine Arts Center where he has been the head of the Jazz Studies program for almost 30 years until later in January. But, fortunately, for all of us jazz lovers, attached at the hip and stepping in for him at this concert will be his longtime student, who also graduated from Steve’s university, the University of Miami, with a bachelor’s degree in Guitar performance, Matt Dingledine, a name well known throughout this region, as the founder of the Greenville Jazz Collective. Just to highlight what Steve thinks of Matt as a guitarist, he recently sold him his studio, Watson Wood, one of the leading music studios in the region. Other members of the Steve Watson trio will be joining Matt, Greg Alewine on bass and Brendan Williamson on piano and vocals by Jamie Wright.
Seneca native, Jamie Wright, a classically trained singer, who now makes her vocal home in R&B and jazz will bring that incredible voice to the evening’s jazz standards and maybe a song or two of the seasons. Lucky for us! A graduate of the famed North Carolina School of the Arts who did her graduate studies in New York with Opera Ebony, her training makes her very comfortable with the demands made on her voice by the dynamic range of R&B and her intricate stylings of America’s music, jazz.
Add long time bassist and friend, Greg Alewine and former Watson student on the piano, Brendan Williamson, and you are promised a very special December evening–it might be chill outside but there will be a different kind of chill inside, and there might just be some songs of the season, too! So, come join Matt, Jamie, Greg and Brendan and chill with us on Friday, December 14 at 7:30 in the intimate setting of the Carolina Music Museum. Yeah, we’ll have some wine and beer here, too. Just 80 seats, get your ticket now, don’t be left out in the cold! Call 864-520-8807 for this fourth in a series of four concerts sponsored by Bianca and Craig Walker. $15 for adults, $5 for students 6-18. You won’t want to miss this!
