First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg and the Spartanburg County Foundation, in partnership with Spartanburg’s Faith Community, are working together to eradicate child poverty!
Recently, the Racial Equity Index has exposed deep ills within our town:
• 45.7 % of children in this city live in poverty.
• Blacks are three times as likely to live in poverty as whites.
• The wage gap for Black and Latina women shows that they are paid less than 57 cents for every dollar paid to their white male counterparts.
The sheer magnitude of these statistics shows us that no one group can achieve what is necessary. It will take all of Spartanburg, working together acting with courage, fortitude, and self-giving love to begin to make a difference.
To that end, we are inviting you to spread the word, invite your friends, your colleagues, and your faith communities to come to a Faith Summit on Child Poverty at First Presbyterian on April 10-11, hosted in partnership with the Spartanburg County Foundation.
Join us for Worship and an interactive kick-off workshop on Wednesday evening, April 10, 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm and then, a day of speakers, relationship-building, and table discussions on Thursday, April 11, 8:30 am – 3:30 pm. Snacks and lunch will be served.
This will not simply be a time of hearing the challenges but beginning to work together to forge a path forward.
