Historical Trees, Historical Places – A story of area trees and homes, many dating back more than one hundred years, with historical and current pictures. Stories of the gardeners who loved some of these trees (and a few other plants) are mingled in as well. Included are about 40 trees in Anderson, Abbeville, and Greenwood Counties, plus others.
Susan Temple is a member of Anderson Master Gardeners, Greater Greenville Master Gardeners, Anderson Garden Club, and is gardening editor for The Electric City News. She volunteers for Ask a Master Gardener booths and gives presentations on several topics. Susan worked in the retail nursery business for nine years and grows a mix of shrubs, trees, conifers, perennials, pass along plants, and most anything she thinks would be interesting to watch grow. Her gardening style is a relaxed cottage fashion with no certain design, working with what deer, voles and rabbits will let grow. She places plants by their particular requirements and for views from the house. Susan gardens on a very large scale but keeps it simple. Very little supplemental watering is done, only small amounts of organic fertilizers are used, leaves fall, seeds drop, and most are left as Mother Nature placed.
