A synopsis of the play: Dubbed as a “sketch comedy musical,” Rated P for Parenthood is a series of short Saturday Night Live – type comic and musical vignettes about parenting. Beginning with the birth of a child and ending when a teen goes off to college, the production is a collage of hilarious child-rearing milestones such as buying breast pumps to dressing up like the Tooth Fairy. Sometimes touching, sometimes humorous to the downright embarrassing, it’s constantly engaging and entertaining.
Available Roles/Casting Requirements: 2 Women and 2 Men between the ages of 25 and 40. Great opportunity to show your acting chops. An ensemble cast of four plays a variety of parents, children, and even elderly grandparents, switching characters and costumes at the speed of light in this high-energy production. We are looking for actors that can morph from character to character, that have good comic timing, can follow dance choreography and are good vocal artists. The songs feature a wide vocal range.
Preparation: Please bring your theatre résumé and a headshot or non-returnable photo. Be prepared to list any scheduling conflicts. Conflicts may not be added after casting. Actors will be asked to read selections from the script and to sing 16-32 bars of a song from a musical. We will have an accompanist, but you will need to bring sheet music. Or, you may bring your own accompaniment music. You may also be taught a short movement combination, so wear clothes that you can move easily in.
Play production dates are May 3, 4, 5, and 10, 11, 12, 2019. For further information, contact:
