Information

SC Women in Leadership is excited to present the August meeting of our Virtual Book Club featuring Raising Our Hands: How White Women Can Stop Avoiding Hard Conversations, Start Accepting Responsibility, and Find Our Place on the New Frontlines, by Jenna Arnold. The meeting will include a moderated discussion around the book’s themes of fighting against complacency, starting to really listen to marginalized voices, and doing our part to promote progress.

We will be reading Raising Our Hands: How White Women Can Stop Avoiding Hard Conversations, Start Accepting Responsibility, and find our Place on the New Frontlines by Jenna Arnold.

White American women are no monolith. As Women’s March National organizer, Arnold has learned from conversations with white women across the US that  they do possess common characteristics— ones that get in the way of becoming more engaged as citizens. We’re so focused on checking off our to-do lists, or so afraid of getting it wrong, or so busy trying to sidestep conflict, that we are actively avoiding the urgent conversations we need to have. Time to get off our complacency and move South Carolina forward.

Join us on August 24 as we discuss this incredibly timely book with Founder Anita Garrett moderating.
