Mitchell’s Light is a 501(c)(3) that began with a loss of a loved one and now helps others. Mitchell Gibson, a local fisherman, went missing March 12, 2016 at Lake Richard B Russell and was eventually found and brought home October 27, 2016. It was during this time of loss and hardship that the idea for this foundation was born, to help others in their time of need and to try to ensure that no other family is sitting at that ramp or on that dock, waiting and praying for answers for their loved one that is missing in the lakes and the rivers that we all enjoy.

Due to the success of previous events and the generosity of community members like you, we have been blessed to make a difference in our community and in the lives of those affected with the loss of a loved one in water. Mitchell’s Light has been honored to donate 5 sonar units and an underwater camera to SC DNR Region One, as well as monetary funds to the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office and a donation to the SC Foothills Search and Rescue K9 group located in Greenville, SC. Due to the knowledge, insight and connections that we have received since our own personal tragedy, Mitchell’s Light was a driving force in the recovery of Kip Burrell, an Anderson native who went missing in Lake Hartwell on July 15, 2016 and was missing for over two months. Our foundation also assisted in the expenses toward the search that brought closure for the Family of Tyler Spink in 2018. Tyler went missing in Lake Michigan September 5, 2016 and after a year and ten months of waiting and praying, his family was finally able to have that comfort of bringing him home and having a place to grieve.

This wonderful fundraiser will once again help support education, training opportunities and equipment purchases in response to the emergencies and sometimes tragic situations that happen in our communities. Once again, we are honored that Anderson County Sheriff Chad McBride and Williamston City Council Member Rockey Burgess will be our honorary Chefs and prepare the Oysters!

This annual fundraising event includes music performed by TAILGATE HOMEBOYS, an ALL YOU CAN EAT Oyster Roast and BBQ, raffles and more! Mark your calendars and join us on March 9, 2019 at 6 pm on the gorgeous shores of Lake Hartwell at Big Water Marina.

Our goals include continued support of our Local Responding Agencies, as well as the purchase of equipment to aid in the search of those that are in an unimaginable situation in our local area. We appreciate your support in making this fundraiser a true success for 2019 and many years to come!

Tickets can be purchased through Event Brite (Event Brite does charge a small processing fee) or contact Jenny Pierce at 864-844-3602 or Kelly Johnson at 864-276-1816.
