Logan Boyd Named SAL Pitcher of the Week

For the second consecutive week, a member of the Greenville Drive roster has received South Atlantic League weekly honors, as left-hander Logan Boyd has been named the Pitcher of the Week.

The native of Humble, Texas made just one start during the week, but he made it count, as he fired seven scoreless innings and allowed just one run and two walks with eight strikeouts in a victory in Greensboro on Thursday, July 21st.

Boyd joins Luis Alexander Basabe as the second Drive player to win weekly honors in July, as Basabe was the Player of the Week for July 11-17. The Drive have had two other players honored by the South Atlantic League this season, as Mitchell Gunsolus was the Player of the Week for May 9-15, and Jose Almonte was the Pitcher of the Week for May 23-29.

In 19 starts this season, Boyd is tied for the South Atlantic League lead with nine victories, and he leads the Drive in starts and innings pitched while placing second with 75 strikeouts. He was voted by Drive fans as the Hale’s Jewelers Player of the Month for April after going 3-1 with a 3.32 ERA in the season’s opening month.

The Drive return to Fluor Field on Thursday, July 28th to begin a four-game series with the Rome Braves.
