"TubaChristmas, the annual event that unites tuba and euphonium players around the world in the spirit of the holidays, will return to downtown Greenville on Saturday, Dec. 12.
Furman University music professor Mark Britt is coordinating the Upstate South Carolina performances at 1 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency and at 3 p.m. at Piazza Bergamo. The musicians will register and rehearse at Furman that morning, then head downtown for the performances. Britt and David Stern of Anderson University will conduct. The local event is being held in conjunction with the St. Francis Hospital Festival of Trees and Holiday Festival. In the United States, 175 cities will have TubaChristmas events during the month of December. The celebration was started as a tribute to legendary tuba player and teacher William Bell, who was born on Christmas Day in 1902. The first TubaChristmas took place in 1974 at the Rockefeller Plaza Ice Rink in New York City. For more information, e-mail Britt at [email protected] or call him at 864-294-2116.
