S.C. Yutaka Technologies Expands Kershaw County Facility; Honda Supplier Adding 70 New Jobs

South Carolina Yutaka Technologies (SCYT), a Japanese supplier of parts for Honda ATVs, announced plans for the expansion of its facility in Kershaw County. The $7 million expansion represents growth of its existing catalytic converter product line as well as the addition of an ATV aluminum wheel stamping process.

SCYT will add 70 full-time positions by summer 2004, and will partner with the South Carolina Center for Accelerated Technology Training (CATT) to address employment recruitment and preliminary employment training needs.

SCYT will add 24,000 square feet to its existing facility located in the Heritage Park Industrial Park off of I-20 and US Highway 601 at exit 92. Construction will begin in September and is scheduled for completion by December 2003. Equipment additions will include a large press with related machining equipment to support the aluminum wheel operation. The catalytic converter process will be a highly automated line using numerous robots. The aluminum wheel product will be supplied to Honda South Carolina, located in Timmonsville, and catalytic converters will be supplied to Honda Manufacturing of Alabama, located in Lincoln, Alabama.

The quality of our workforce allows us to successfully compete on a world-class level and thats worth investing in as we pursue additional growth opportunities in the months and years to come. said Takashi Ezaki, President of SCYT.

"S.C. Yutaka Technologies is another spark in Kershaw County's drive toward economic development excellence," said Bob Faith, Secretary of Commerce.

Today's announcement is further evidence Kershaw County has the workforce and business climate necessary for companies to succeed in the global market, said Steve S. Kelly, Jr., chairman of Kershaw County Council.

Todays announcement further demonstrates that our business climate encourages existing industry to expand and re-invest in our local communities. We appreciate SCYTs confidence in our world-renowned workforce, said Charlie Cole, Chairman of the Central Carolina Economic Development Alliance.
