South Carolina Student Loan, the private non-profit education loan provider for the State, recently presented a $1 million check to South Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities, Inc. (SCICU) for the purpose of providing scholarship funds to undergraduate students attending South Carolina�s independent colleges and universities.
�This gift represents the single largest contribution in the history of our organization,� SCICU Executive Vice President Wayne Landrith said. �We are extremely grateful for the continued support of organizations like SC Student Loan that support our goal of making a quality education affordable for deserving students.� According to Landrith, the investment earnings from this contribution will be distributed annually to the 20 member institutions of SCICU. Recipients of the South Carolina Student Loan Scholarship will be selected on the basis of financial need and academic achievement. �South Carolina�s independent colleges and universities have been loyal supporters of South Carolina Student Loan since our inception 32 years ago,� SC Student Loan President Chuck Sanders said. �It�s our honor and pleasure to share our success with these schools and their students.� SC Student Loan is a non-profit organization established by the state to make educational loans to South Carolina residents and students attending South Carolina institutions. Since its inception in 1974, SC Student Loan has made loans to over 380,000 people, totaling over $5.6 billion, while maintaining one of the lowest default rates in the nation.
