The South Carolina Chamber of Commerce, the states unified voice of business, is pleased to announce its 2010 Public Servant of the Year is Senator Greg Ryberg of Aiken. Senator Ryberg will be honored November 11 at the South Carolina Chambers 31st Annual Summit, Hidden Treasures of South Carolina.Senator Ryberg was instrumental in the passage of pro-business legislation during the second session of the 118th General Assembly. After the South Carolina Employment Security Commission (ESC) paid out more than $170 million to employees fired for gross misconduct, Senator Ryberg led a bipartisan group of legislators that worked to pass ESC reform legislation. The new law created the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce, terminated ESC commissioners, set new elections for appellate panel members and restricted payouts for employees fired for gross misconduct. In addition, Senator Ryberg played a key role in passing legislation to begin restoring the solvency of the UI Trust Fund. Senator Greg Ryberg has been a strong advocate for business for many years, said Otis Rawl, president and CEO of the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce. He consistently supports priorities of the business community, including tort and workers compensation reforms and sound infrastructure, each improving the states business climate. The South Carolina Chambers Public Servant of the Year award recognizes an individual who has served, or currently serves, as a key official in state government and has contributed to the overall well-being and health of the state as a whole. The Chambers 31st Annual Summit, Hidden Treasures of South Carolina, will bring together more than 250 of the states most powerful business leaders to discuss future goals to increase South Carolinas global competitiveness. The keynote address will be given by Ray Conner, vice president and general manager of Supply Chain Management and Operations for Boeing Commercial Airplanes. Annual Summit sponsorship opportunities are still available.
