Samsung Networks formally announced plans for America, Inc. (SNA) to locate its North American Customer Care Center in Mauldin, South Carolina.
While specific capital investment and hiring plans were not provided by Samsung Networks America officials, Jerry Howard, President and CEO of the Greenville Area Development Corporation stated that "the company will invest approximately $20 million to establish the service center, and we would not be surprised to see as many as 1,000 new jobs over the next five years." The GADC helped to negotiate the final agreement with SNA, and the project operated under the code name of Project Teal for months while negotiations and discussions were ongoing. "This is obviously a significant announcement for our community and state, and SNA's decision to locate here reinforces global perceptions that Greenville County and the Upstate offer a business-friendly climate, growth opportunities and capable workforce in both good and challenging economic times," Howard added. Samsung's North American Customer Care Center will be located in the Centerpointe Business Park in Mauldin. The SNA call center will serve the customer care needs of numerous domestic and global companies. SNA is a sister organization to Samsung Electronics, the South Korean-owned manufacturer and marketer of scores of products worldwide, which has been rated among the top 20 global brands and among the world's most innovative companies by Business Week magazine, with in excess of $100 billion in sales. "In today's global economy our state's ability to compete and attract companies with the worldwide reach and scale of Samsung Networks America is increasingly important. Further, their decision to not only locate here, but also generate job opportunities of this magnitude, is an incredible compliment to our workforce and efforts to establish a business-friendly environment that encourages growth and investment," said Gov. Mark Sanford. The company is seeking to fill a wide range of positions including customer service positions, operations managers, finance and accounting, training, quality assurance, data analysis, human resource and telecom system engineers.
