Byron Rucker Resigns as Greenville Grrrowl GM; Slated For Executive Director of Greenville Events, Inc. 19


The Greenville Grrrowl of the ECHL, proud affiliates of the Chicago Blackhawks and Edmonton Oilers, recently announced that Executive Vice President and General Manager Byron Rucker has resigned his position. Rucker will become the executive director of Greenville Events, Inc. Assistant General Manager Ryan Stewart and Finance Assistant Karen Childress will handle the majority of Rucker�s responsibilities for the remainder of the season, effective February 27th.

�Byron has been a tower of strength for us through this period of time,� said Carl Scheer, Chairman and CEO of the Greenville Grrrowl and ScheerSports. �He has been a long-time, dedicated associate that we will miss dearly. We know he�ll go on to great things and greater successes.�

Rucker was with the Greenville Grrrowl since the inaugural 1998-99 season. During his 8� year tenure with ScheerSports, Rucker served in management capacities with the Greenville Grrrowl (ECHL Hockey), the Carolina Rhinos (AF2 Football) and Greenville Groove (NBDL Basketball). He was local organizing committee chairman for the 2002 NCAA Men�s Basketball 1st and 2nd round games at the BI-LO Center, and is currently tournament director for the Southeastern Conference Women�s Basketball Tournament, March 3-6 at the BI-LO Center.

�The opportunities and challenges ahead with Greenville Events are very exciting,� stated Rucker. �I�m a Greenville native with a great love for my hometown. I hope to showcase both the community and our events in the best light possible. The Greenville Events Board of Directors and staff are all committed to one common goal: to bring special memories to those who attend all of the events in the Upstate.�

Rucker attended Presbyterian College, receiving a B.A. in History and a minor in Physical Education/Coaching. After joining ScheerSports in 1997, Rucker began developing the operation and entertainment for the Greenville Grrrowl. He was involved in the direct day-to-day operations of the Grrrowl, the Carolina Rhinos, and the Greenville Groove. Rucker was named the Executive Vice President / General Manager of ScheerSports in June of 2002.

Rucker brings to GEI nearly 20 years event production and management experience. After graduating from of Presbyterian College, he served as Women�s Basketball Coach and Sports Information Director at his alma mater. He has also worked with the LPGA Pro-Am at Furman University and Gettysburg College; South Carolina High School Championship and All-Star events for basketball and football; Southern Conference Men�s Basketball Championships; 2000 ECHL All-Star Game and numerous NBA and NHL pre-season events.
