The Reedy River Run has become a tradition in Greenville. With different levels of racing, the run offers something for everyone. The 10K course starts heading north on Main Street at McBee, in front of the Carolina First building (104 S. Main St, Greenville SC 29601). After quick left turns on Washington and Richardson Streets, runners head south for the first two miles of the race through Greenvilles historic West End and Augusta Street, passing by the award-winning home the Greenville Drive, Fluor Field. Runners are met with a welcome downhill, followed by a moderate uphill on Church Street. Nearing the halfway mark, runners pass by Falls Park and then run through beautiful Cleveland Park for 2.5 miles. The finish is near as athletes exit Cleveland Park onto Broad Street. A quick left onto Falls Street will lead runners to the finish at Liberty Bridge, and the post race party in Falls Park. The 5K course starts heading south on Main Street at McBee, in front of the Carolina First building (104 S. Main St, Greenville SC 29601). Runners then head west on Broad Street, before absorbing the sights in the historic neighborhoods of Pinckney and Mulberry Streets. Just past the halfway mark, runners head east toward the finish on the freshly paved Swamp Rabbit Trail. The Trail runs along the Reedy River, and then over it in the final mile, leading 5K athletes to finish in Falls Park at the Liberty Bridge. The course features rolling terrain, with no significant climbs. During the mid-1970s, many young leaders in Greenville began looking for ways to bring some fun and energy back to downtown Greenville. Cleveland Park had just been revitalized, complete with more than three miles of paved trails. And one of several public-private efforts had successfully created Heritage Green by re-landscaping the area surrounding the County Library (now home of our new Children's Museum), the Greenville County Art Museum, and the Little Theatre. Gally Gallivan, one of those up-and-coming Greenville leaders, was both a South Carolina National banking executive and a Greenville Track Club runner. Gally and his SCN colleagues approached Adrian Craven about the idea of starting a 10K race that would run along the Reedy River through Cleveland Park. With SCN's generous financial backing, Adrian quickly won approval from the five-year-old Greenville Track Club to produce and manage the first Reedy River Run in the spring of 1977. From year one, The Reedy was a featured 10K event on the Racing South Magazine road racing circuit. It also had the blessing of the USA Track & Field organization and became USATF's South Carolina 10K state championship. As you finish the race, you will be guided across the Liberty Bridge to Overlook Grill and Falls Park. Celebrate with friends and fellow runners by enjoying the food, drinks, music, and awards ceremony, which begins at 10:45 a.m. Among some of the things you can sample are fresh bread from Great Harvest Bread Company, Subs from Jersey Mike's, and beverages courtesy of the Overlook Grill.
