Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Carolinas ® Wins Best Bets Award In Worldwide Competition

Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Carolinas (RMHC of Carolinas) was presented with a Best Bets Award during the 2011 Ronald McDonald House Charities International Conference in Chicago. RMHC of the Carolinas received this award for its young professional group, “The Red Shoe Society.”

“We are very proud of this award,” stated RMHC of the Carolinas CEO / Executive Director, Bill Sorochak.

The bi-annual conference gathers Ronald McDonald House Charities representatives from 28 countries and regions worldwide, representing 308 Houses, to learn about the most compelling issues facing non-profit organizations today and to share best practices with each other.

The Red Shoe Society has become one of the premier young professional philanthropic societies in the Upstate of South Carolina, supporting the children, families, staff, volunteers and donors of the RMHC of the Carolinas. Their mission is to engage, empower and inspire young professionals to participate in philanthropic and leadership endeavors and build awareness of the Ronald McDonald House Charities. Members are known for wearing Red Converse Sneakers and pins to events they attend.

“Their talents and creativity clearly present a compelling message to our community,” Sorochak stated.

Best Bets entries were reviewed on a number of criteria. One of them in particular won the award for RMHC of the Carolinas. It was based on relationships. Judges felt the Red Shoe Society enlisted key influencers and strengthened existing alliances. A $5,000 grant from RMHC National was awarded to each of the category winners, including the RSS. The overall winner was from Japan.

"We're thrilled to have been recognized," said Matt McFadden, RSS Board President. "Our success lies with our creative partnerships with the community who serve as supporters and donors to our children. These generous community partners share a passion and commitment for our mission of serving critically ill children and their families.”

This April, RMHC of the Carolinas celebrated its 22th year of service to the Upstate of South Carolina, Western North Carolina and Northeast Georgia Community. Last year, the organization provided a ‘home away from home’ for more than 891 families. RMHC of the Carolinas serves the Greenville Hospital System- NICU, PICU, Marshall Pickens, Rogers C. Peace Rehabilitation, Children’s Cancer Center and Children’s Hospital, and serves Shriners Hospital for Children, which serves six states and internationally.
