The Pavilion Plays Host to Greenville's Vintage Mini Passenger Train.

All aboard! A great delight of many children growing up in the 1950's was to talk Mom and Dad into a ride on the mini-train replica of an old Southern Railway diesel that ran around McPhearson Park in downtown Greenville. Those same "kids" can give their own children that same thrill today with a ride on the same train, which is making its new home on the track around the soccer fields at the Pavilion.

The Recreation District of Greenville County has given the train a permanent home at the Pavilion, located on Scottswood Road in Taylors, in an effort to preserve a significant piece of Greenville's history and provide a unique recreational opportunity for families in the Greenville area.

Some 4,500 passengers have boarded the Brushy Creek & Southern Railroad train since it began its run at the Pavilion. The Pavilion can now provide even more entertainment for children's special occasions (such as birthday parties), or as just a nice place to enjoy a peaceful spring or summer afternoon. As before, the Pavilion offers an excellent playground, ice rink, and game room, but, with the addition of the train, young train enthusiasts can add this adventure to their day. Train souvenirs are also available inside at the Pavilion.

The train began service at the Pavilion on March 17. The train runs on Tuesday - Friday from 10AM - 1PM, Saturday from 10AM - 12Noon and 1 - 5PM, and Sunday from 1 - 5PM.

For train ticket information or additional information about recreational services available at the Pavilion, please call 322-PLAY.
