Koerber LLC to Locate Facility in Laurens County; Automotive Supplier to Bring 70 New Jobs to the Area

The South Carolina Department of Commerce and Laurens County Development Corporation recently announced that Koerber LLC will locate its first production facility outside of Germany in Laurens County. Koerber LLC will make substantial investments of several million dollars over the next several years into this new plant to establish and grow its position in the market. In an initial phase, the company will occupy a 50,000 sq ft facility in the Hunter Industrial Park in Laurens County.

The idea to reach out to the market in the USA has been already present in Koerber GmbH for many years, but recent requests from the existing customer base to make the move over the ocean and to support the production of new automotive technologies also in this area encouraged the decision of the Koerber family, who owns the company, to transfer production expertise to South Carolina, said Martin Niggemeier, Managing Director, Koerber LLC. The company would like to thank the South Carolina Department of Commerce and the Laurens County Development Corporation for their very supportive role in moving the operations to Laurens County.

In its 30th year of existence, Koerber decided to expand support for its automotive and non-automotive customers by creating a new manufacturing plant for the machining of complex aluminum and brass components in the USA.

As we work to compete in todays global economy, our states ability to attract international investment is increasingly important. Todays news certainly speaks to our success in that regard, as well as to our efforts to enhance the states economic soil conditions to promote industry growth and job creation. We remain committed to continuing these efforts to create jobs and opportunity for more South Carolinians, said Gov. Mark Sanford.

We anticipate Koerber to invest approximately $10 million dollars and create an estimated 70 positions as a result of the investment. This is great news for Laurens County, said Marvin Moss, Executive Director, Laurens County Development Corporation.

We are extremely pleased that Koerber chose Laurens County for their first facility outside of Germany. We believe this is just one example of continued industry growth in our county, stated Jim Coleman Chairman of the Laurens County Development Corporation and Chairman of Laurens County Council.

This is a significant day for the City of Laurens. Koerber is the fourth international company to locate in Hunter Industrial Par, which truly makes it a global manufacturing hub, Laurens Mayor Sharon Brownlee added.

As a subsidiary of the German based Koerber GmbH headquartered in Berlin, German, the company will be focusing on its experience in the machining of forged, die-casted, and extruded components. Koerber manufactures complex machined aluminum parts for tier 1 automotive suppliers.
