KS Bearings Inc., a subsidiary of the Bearings Division of German manufacturing company Kolbenschmidt Pierburg AG, announced today that it will begin manufacturing operations in Fountain Inn in January 2002, in an $11 million facility located in the South Chase Industrial Park. The new manufacturing facility will employ approximately 70 people, and anticipates sales of approximately $15 million. With five manufacturing plants located in Germany, Brazil and the United States, KS Bearings Inc. is a worldwide manufacturer of bi-metallic bearings, bushings and washers for the automotive and general industrial sectors. According to company officials, KS Bearings Inc. is transferring some of its product lines to the Fountain Inn facility from Greensburg, Indiana. Other product lines will be transferred to the company's facility in Papenburg, Germany, while a casting and aluminum cladding line will remain in Indiana.
W. Hainke, president of KS Bearings Inc., said, "Though other locations were considered for relocation of company products, KS Bearings Inc. found that Fountain Inn and the greater Greenville area provided the essential ingredients for a successful transition. The availability of skilled labor, unique cultural climate and the diversity of existing industries make this area most attractive for our company." Bob Hughes, chairman of the Greater Greenville Chamber of Commerce, said, "Our community looks forward to a long and prosperous partnership with KS Bearings. It's gratifying to see this continuing trend of attracting and excelling in international investment in the Greenville area." KS Bearings, Inc. will be transfering seven employees from its Indiana facility, but will be hiring an addtitonal sixty-three salaried and hourly employees. Hourly employees will make an average of $14.75 an hour.
