Greenville Tech Offers Learning Opportunities in Health, Beauty, and Fitness

Greenville Technical College has a longstanding reputation for quality in healthcare offerings, and for many years has offered programs in nursing, respiratory care, and EMT/paramedic, with graduates welcomed by area employers.

In recent years, the college has moved into the area of preventive health, adding programs in health, beauty, and fitness. The initial offering was a certificate in Massage Therapy. Carolyn Talley-Porter, a leader in the field dedicated to bringing respectability to the profession, was hired as department head.

The success of the Massage Therapy program was followed with the addition of programs in Personal Trainer, Cosmetology, Nail Technology, and Esthetics. Recently, an aromatherapy program was added, designed to teach students to help patients deal with pain, ease depression, treat insomnia, and lower blood pressure. For massage therapists and other health professionals, aromatherapy can broaden career opportunities by providing training and experience in a respected and growing alternative therapy.

A Spa Therapy certificate was also added, giving graduates the capabilities to work in the fast-growing spa services and wellness industry. The curriculum covers treatments and services including body wraps and scrubs, which stimulate circulation and detoxification processes.
