Greenville Grrrowl Offers Unique Pre-Season On-Ice Exhibition Sunday

The Greenville Grrrowl, Greenvilles professional ice hockey team and Chicago Blackhawks and Edmonton Oilers affiliate, has announced plans for a pre-season exhibition event at the BI-LO Center at 3:05 PM on Sunday, October 17, 2004. The event replaces the previously scheduled pre-season game with the Roanoke Express, who ceased operations earlier this summer. The event will be free to the public, and Top Dog members will have access to their purchased seats for the event.

The Grrrowl will compete in an intra-squad scrimmage for two extended periods of hockey, to be followed by one five-minute 4-on-4 period, and will be capped by a shootout with all players participating. The conclusion of the event features an open skate with the players, and will be open to the public.

I really believe that this will be a fun day for the fans and the organization, said Byron K. Rucker, Executive VP/General Manager for the Grrrowl. This training camp schedule is unique in the fact that the team will be in Anchorage, Alaska for 5 days during camp, keeping them from attending our Top Dog ticket pick-up party for the first time in seven seasons. When we lost Roanoke as an opponent for the pre-season game, we wanted to replace it with a unique setup for the day. This years camp will be very competitive, and this could be the last chance for a couple of players to make the squad prior to the start of the season. Our fans will have a great opportunity to meet the players and to get back on the ice at the BI-LO Center for the first time in over six months.

The BI-LO Center box office will be open with tickets on sale for future Grrrowl games and BI-LO Center events.

The following players have agreed to terms for the 2004-05 season: FORWARDS Krys Barch, Josh Oort, Kevin Bergin, Mike Nelson, Jason Norrie (VET), Carl Mallette, Colin Pepperall (VET), Mark Concannon, Russell Spence, Richard Naumann, Troy Illijow, Richard Pitirri (VET); DEFENSE Corey Hessler, Paul Esdale, Joey Martin, Jason Metcalfe, Daryl Pierce, Randy Dagenais.

The Grrrowl will open the 2004-05 schedule with a home game on Friday, October 22, 2004, against the Charlotte Checkers. Season tickets (starting at $238), mini-plans, and flex packs are available now by contacting the Grrrowl office. Please call 864-467-4777 for additional ticket information.
