Greenville County Auto Tech Students Win Ford/AAA Student Auto Skills Competition

Congratulations to J. Harley Bonds Career Center Automotive Tech students Jesse Donald and Trey Brown for their first place award in the Ford/AAA Student Auto Skills Competition held recently at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. They had to properly repair defects placed in a 2012 Ford Mustang. Jesse and Trey also won the High Written Test Score trophy. Each student received over $43,000 in scholarships and tools and will travel to Fords corporate headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan, in June to represent South Carolina in the National Competition. Jesse Donald is a senior at Riverside High and Trey Brown is a junior at Greer High School.

The Automotive Technology program at Bonds Career Center is taught by John Romano, who won the same contest in 1976 when he was a senior in the Auto Tech program at Foothills Career Center. He was the last student from Greenville County Schools to win this distinguished contest; now two of his own students follow in his footsteps.

J. Harley Bonds Career and Technology Center is located in the lower level of the J. Harley Bonds Resource Center. The Resource Center was created by the renovation of the old Greer High School. At Bonds, students have the opportunity to pursue a technical career interest while earning high school credit and dual credit (college credit). Some programs are one year and some are two years with each culminating in students earning licenses, national certification, or college credit. The courses are designed for students who are planning on pursuing a two-year associate degree, a four-year degree, or a career after graduation.
