Fluor Corp. Awarded $1.1 Billion in New Contracts To Restore Iraqi Public Works & Water Infrastructure

Fluor Corporation announced that its joint venture, FluorAMEC LLC, has been awarded two contracts by the U.S. Department of Defense to reconstruct Iraq's public works and water sector infrastructure. Values of the two joint-venture contracts have ceilings of US$600 million and US$500 million, respectively.

Under these contracts, FluorAMEC will provide design-build construction services for the rehabilitation of existing, and construction of new, potable water distribution and treatment systems, municipal sewer collection and treatment systems, and solid waste management systems throughout Iraq.

These awards are two of 10 major reconstruction contracts being awarded by the Department of Defense in support of the Coalition Provisional Authority Program Management Office (PMO) for services in five sectors--electrical, public works/water, transportation/communications, security/justice, and buildings/education/health. FluorAMEC previously was awarded a Department of Defense contract for design-build construction services in the electrical sector.

The PMO manages the $18.4 billion appropriated by the U.S. Congress to support the reconstruction of Iraqi infrastructure and is responsible for all activities associated with program, project, asset, construction and financial management of that portion of the reconstruction effort undertaken by the United States. The goal of PMO, and the prime contractors that are selected, is to assist Iraq in rebuilding infrastructure, growing employment opportunities for Iraqi citizens, and building skill sets and capacity for a strong and successful future for Iraqis.
