Famed Political Consultant James Carville to Speak on Campus May 12

James Carville, Americas best known political consultant and Democratic strategist who helped elect President Bill Clinton in 1992, will speak on the Furman University campus Monday, May 12 at 3 p.m. in the Younts Conference Center.

A Conversation with James Carville is free and open to the public, although seating is limited. The doors will open at 2:30 p.m. for the public. Carvilles visit to campus is sponsored by Furmans College Democrats.

For his work on the Clinton campaign, the American Association of Political Consultants named Carville Campaign Manager of the Year in 1993. He went on to serve as a senior political adviser to President Clinton.

Carvilles other well-known electoral successes include the gubernatorial victories of Pennsylvanias Robert Casey (1986) and Georgias Zell Miller (1990), as well as the 1991 Senate victory of Harris Wofford in Pennsylvania. After the Clinton victory in 1992, Carville began to focus on foreign consulting. Since that time, his political clients have included Greek Prime Minister Constantine Mitsotakis, Brazilian President Fernando Henrique Cardoso and Honduran Prime Minister Carlos Flores. In 1999, Carville led Ehud Barak to victory in his campaign to become the Prime Minister of Israel.

Carville is the author of several books, including Alls Fair: Love, War, and Running for President, which spent eight weeks on The New York Times bestseller list, and Had Enough? A Handbook for Fighting Back. He can be seen regularly on television as a CNN commentator and contributor.

Carville is married to Mary Matalin, former Assistant to President Bush and Counselor to Vice-President Cheney. In 2003, Carville and Matalin provided a critically-acclaimed spin on political consulting in the HBO series K Street, a political drama based on the working lives of Washington political consultants.
