Robert Bosch Corporation Plans Expansion; Creating 200 jobs with $200 Million in New Investment

Robert Bosch Corporation, one of the world's largest automotive suppliers, affirmed plans for additional investment to its Anderson County facility. During an Anderson County Council meeting December 3rd, Bosch made plans public to create in excess of 200 jobs and $200 million in new investment during a Fee-In-Lieu-of-Taxes (FILOT) discussion.

Bosch's long-term plans include adding new product lines and a possible facility expansion that will create more than 200 new jobs at the Anderson location making the company the one of the largest employers in Anderson County.

"This investment reflects Bosch's ongoing commitment to the Anderson area and to South Carolina," said Jim Tolson, vice president, commercial, Bosch Anderson facility. "Bosch has been a corporate citizen of South Carolina for more than 25 years and the dedication and commitment of our associates at the Anderson facility have contributed to Bosch's steady growth in North America."

A FILOT agreement with the county indicates that Bosch intends to make a long-term commitment to create high-wage jobs with benefits in the county that would bring significant positive impact to the area. Bosch's growth opportunities will span the next eight to 10 years.

"The expansion of Robert Bosch is extremely good news for Anderson County. This announcement represents a cooperative effort between Bosch, the S.C. Department of Commerce, and Anderson County, and it proves that even in these challenging economic times, Anderson County is able to attract investment from outstanding companies looking for a positive business climate," said Anderson County Council Chairman Larry Greer.

The 200 new jobs will be created over an eight to 10 year span. Bosch Corporation will continue to use the state's Center for Advanced Technical Training to meet its hiring needs.

Currently, Bosch manufactures automotive oxygen sensors, ABS electrical control units, fuel management components and ABS wheel speed sensors. Bosch has four primary facilities in South Carolina and one joint venture, that employ 5,000, accounting for roughly 20 percent of Bosch's North American workforce.

"Bosch continues to be a powerhouse in terms of economic development for the state," said Governor Jim Hodges. "Their long-term plans for South Carolina include utilizing local workers with the finest South Carolina craftsmanship. We are delighted they continue to put their trust in their South Carolina locations."

"Anderson County today celebrates Bosch's fabulous expansion announcement which will bring over 200 new high-tech jobs and $200 million in new investment to our county. This reinforces once again the importance of existing industry to our county's continued economic success. We look forward to working with Bosch in the future as they continue to thrive," said Anderson County Economic Development Director John Lummus.

Robert Bosch GmbH began operating in its Dorchester County, South Carolina facility in 1974. Since then, Bosch has expanded its Charleston area operations six times and added automotive facilities in Sumter and Anderson, SC, as well as a joint venture with Denso in the state. The Anderson facility officially opened in 1985.
