Beverage Air Plans Major Expansion at Abbeville County Plant.

Beverage Air, a manufacturer of refrigeration and freezer equipment, will undertake a major expansion at its Honea Path facility located in Abbeville County. The expansion is the result of a new commercial freezer line that is being added to the plant. The project will create 92 new jobs and generate a capital investment of over $2 million.

According to Jim Feighery, Beverage Airs Plant Manager, the Honea Path facility is an excellent location for the project. The location has consistently provided the company with a productive and skilled workforce, and the cooperation and assistance Beverage Air has received from the Abbeville County Development Board and South Carolina Department of Commerce has been outstanding. Rearrangement of the plant to accommodate additional equipment is on schedule and equipment for new product lines started arriving this week and will continue through March 2002. Hiring of full time personnel will start in February, following completion of training classes for prospective employees, he said.

Beverage Air is utilizing the South Carolina Center for Accelerated Technology Training (CATT), formerly South Carolina Special Schools, and Piedmont Technical College, in the recruitment and training of new employees for the operation. The company will hire approximately 80 employees to fill a number of manufacturing positions that include assemblers, braziers and solderers and sheet metal fabricators. Charles S. Way Jr. , Secretary of the South Carolina Department of Commerce says that by utilizing the Center for Accelerated Technology Training, Beverage Air is building a dependable and abundant work force for today and in the future. We are delighted that additional lines of Beverage Air's quality products will be made with South Carolina pride and craftsmanship," he said.

Beverage Air opened its Honea Path facility in 1996 and is a subsidiary of Carrier Corporation. The operation currently employs 150. Persons interested in applying for the new positions should contact the South Carolina Employment and Security Commission in Abbeville at (864) 459-5486.
