Ahold Information Services Plans $50 Million Expansion in Mauldin


The Greenville Area Development Corporation announced that Ahold Information Services will invest an additional $50 million in new software and equipment at its headquarters facility in Mauldin during the next 5 years.

Ahold Information Services (AIS) is the Information Solution provider to Ahold USA�s family of companies. These companies include Mauldin-based BI-LO as well as Stop & Shop (Boston, MA), Giant Food Stores (Landover, MD), Tops Supermarkets (Buffalo, NY), Bruno�s (Birmingham, AL), and Giant Stores (Carlisle, PA). Founded in 1995, AIS provides a full menu of IT services and has grown to become a leading employer of IT professionals across multiple technologies and disciplines. The Mauldin facility currently employs 750 full-time employees and boasts one of the largest data centers in the United States.

�We are extremely pleased with the business climate in the Upstate. This area continues to grow and we believe this additional investment in our business will further our own growth potential,� said Pat Roberts, Chief Information Systems and Technology Officer for Ahold Information Services.

�This is a significant capital investment announcement in one of those core knowledge-based segments of our state's economy,� said Governor Sanford. �It's also an announcement that'll likely create additional jobs down the road. That's why it's so critical moving forward that we're not only looking at reforms like income tax relief that improve our underlying business climate, but also at linking knowledge-based companies like Ahold into a cohesive economic development strategy for our state.�

�This is an investment in the economy of South Carolina�s future � one based on brainpower and on the value the our skilled workers can provide to a company such as Ahold,� said Commerce Secretary Bob Faith.

�We are very appreciative of Ahold�s renewed commitment to Mauldin and the Greenville area,� said Phyllis Henderson, Chairwoman of County Council, �much of our community�s strength in information technology and technology jobs can be attributed to AIS. We will keep growing this area of our economy in the days ahead.�
