Automation Engineering Co. Announces $1.2 Million Expansion; 25 New Highly Skilled Positions

Automation Engineering Corporation (AEC) is expanding its facility off Pelham Road in Greenville, the S.C. Department of Commerce and the Greenville Area Development Corporation announced today. AEC will expand its existing location on Smith Road with a $1.2 million new building addition that will add 25 new technical, skilled positions over the next two years.

The first phase of the expansion is expected to be completed in five months. It will add 12,000 square feet of high bay manufacturing space for the fabrication and assembly of industrial automation equipment. Future phases of expansion will add a total of 42,000 square feet. Design and construction services will be provided by T2C of Greenville.

Automation Engineering Corporation was formed in 1981 and specializes in the development of machinery and control systems for manufacturers. Started with four employees in a small office in Gaffney, AEC has grown through continuous improvement to more than sixty employees and now occupies a 30,000 square foot facility off Pelham Road in Greenville.

We are extremely pleased to continue to grow and improve AEC. This new facility will help us improve the services and products we provide. Our customers will benefit from our capability to provide larger equipment and fulfill their requirements for larger projects, said Gary Foster, president of Automation Engineering. Foster added, We hope that our customers and other manufacturers in the Upstate will come to rely on AEC for their factory manufacturing and automation needs.

"Our goal is to continue pushing reforms like income tax relief so that more homegrown companies like Automation can expand and add even more jobs," said Governor Mark Sanford. "We've got an obligation to our state's small businesses to do everything we can to improve our business climate so that they can thrive and grow into big businesses. It's ultimately success stories like you see with Automation that we're trying to duplicate here in South Carolina."

Supporting innovation-driven manufacturers is key to our economic development strategy based on the South Carolina Competitiveness Initiative, said Commerce Secretary Bob Faith. Services that Automation Engineering Company offers can help manufacturers in our state get to the next level. We are thrilled that this company is expanding in South Carolina.
