The Greenville Area Development Corporation announced today that 3M is expanding its existing tape and film facility located at Donaldson Center. The possible $18.4 million announced capital investment includes the companys recent announcement in August that it is moving its production of filament tape from its Bristol, PA facility. According to 3M, the investment will help secure the plants future for the next five years.

In addition, Jeff Maki, the current Donaldson Center 3M Plant Manager, will be leaving the area to manage Box Sealing Tape world-wide from 3M headquarters located in St. Paul, MN. Jim Sundermeyer, who will be assuming the role of plant manager at the Donaldson Center facility, is moving from the companys Bristol, PA location.

Jeff Maki states, Greenville County has always been very supportive of our operations and I want to say Thank You on behalf of 3M for the support shown when we expand operations. The support from the county is often the tie breaker as we compete for business in our community.

3Ms announcement is an example of solid industry expansion in the county and the overall positive business and quality of life climate in the area, said Greenville County Council Chairman Dozier Brooks.

"Using the current financial time to invest in equipment and plant facilities will allow 3M to continue its competitive lead in a fluctuating world economy," said Secretary of Commerce Charles S. Way, Jr. "3M's announcement today shows the depth of its confidence in the state's capable workers and in our economy that will pay big dividends for them in the future."

3M employs 490 at the Donaldson Center facility. In addition to the box sealing-tape operation, the facility also produces polyester film used for X-rays films and overhead transparencies.
