Brian Horton Officially Named Greenville City Fire Department Chief

Greenville City Manager John McDonough officially removed the “interim” tag to make Brian Horton the Greenville City Fire Department Chief.

Chief Horton took over the role in August 2021 after the retirement of Chief Stephen Kovalcik.

Horton began his fire service career in 1993 as a volunteer firefighter in Sumter. He also worked with the South Carolina Forestry Commission before joining the Greenville City Fire Department in 2013.

In 2017, he was promoted to the Deputy Fire Chief position.

Horton is actively involved with the South Carolina Fire Academy where he is an adjunct instructor and serves on the Advisory Board for the Academy. He also serves on the South Carolina Firefighters Association’s Finance Committee and the Greenville County Technical College’s Paramedic Advisory Committee.
