Greenville Company Looks to Make and Distribute 90,000 Coronavirus Testing Kits

CPT Medical, a company in Greenville that manufactures surgical equipment, is starting to manufacture its own test kits.

The company’s efforts to ramp up production in the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic is featured in a recent article published by the Spartanburg Herald-Journal. The following paragraphs are an excerpt from the article written by journalist Dustin Wyatt.

Michael Conroy gets a lot of calls from clients about the lack of available coronavirus test kits.

As a vice president of CPT Medical, a company in Greenville that manufactures surgical equipment, his clients are 120 hospitals and health care providers nationwide, including several in the Upstate.

“There is a drastic shortage of tests,” Conroy said. “Everyone we have ever worked with is calling and asking about testing, asking: ‘Where can I get supplies?’ It’s a national shortage.”

In response, the lab – which makes and distributes equipment for hip replacements, heart surgeries and more – is starting to manufacture its own test kits. The plan is to crank out 40,000 to 50,000 over the next week, and 90,000 over the next two weeks.
