City to Hold Community Workshops to Study South Downtown Area

The City of Greenville has retained Urban Design Associates (UDA), the firm that developed the recently-adopted Downtown Master Plan, to conduct a community charrette to help city staff, residents, and property owners take a broader look at the South Downtown area.

The South Downtown area is located just south of the Central Business District, between the Church Street and Augusta Street corridors.

The charrette will take place November 12-14 and will focus on street and trail networks, street character and circulation patterns, public spaces, and transitions between mixed-use properties and single-family residences.

The first of two open house events will be held on Tuesday, November 12, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the Greenville Water Community Room (517 W Washington Street) and will feature an interactive discussion with the consultants on neighborhood connectivity and integration.

The second open house event, which will be held on Thursday, November 14, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the Greenville Water Community Room, will begin with a formal presentation by UDA followed by roundtable discussions led by UDA and city staff.

At the conclusion of the charrette, UDA will develop a summary report, including drawings to illustrate the recommendations produced through the charrette process.
