Seventh graders at Ralph Chandler Middle School in Simpsonville recently held a town hall meeting to conclude their study of the major world wars. Students hosted a panel of veterans from the American Legion of Greenville, Post 3.
Veterans from World War II, Vietnam and the Iraq war were present as well as veterans from other conflicts. Members of the panel have collaborated with educators to ensure high quality exchanges for students.
Students were insistent upon getting their questions answered by individuals who have witnessed and experienced what they have only read about and discussed in their classrooms.
Topics discussed include the politics of war, the impact of foreign war on the home front, the diverse experience of soldiers at war and the struggles of the soldier returning from war.
