October is Greenlink’s Try Transit Month

October is “Try Transit Month” in the city of Greenville, and Greenlink has a full schedule of events to celebrate.

Try Transit Month is part of an ongoing initiative to educate Greenville County residents about the economic and environmental benefits of public transit and encourage citizens who do not typically use public transportation to ride Greenlink. Try Transit Month events include children’s story time with Greenlink bus drivers, transit trivia night. and Greenlink’s popular Fare Free Friday sponsored by Greenville Heritage Federal Credit Union.

Fare Free Friday is scheduled for October 26 and on this special day, passengers will enjoy free rides and transfers on all of Greenlink’s 11 fixed routes (Greenville Area Paratransit service is excluded from this promotion). Fixed routes 1 – 14 operate from 5:30 am to 7:30 pm on Fridays and Route 16 operates from 5:30 am to 9 pm. Schedules and estimated time stops for all routes can be found at www.ridegreenlink.com.

According to Alan Berry, President/CEO of Greenville Heritage Federal Credit Union, Fare Free Friday is the perfect opportunity for those who have not considered public transit an option in the past to give it a try. It is also a way for Greenville Heritage to thank the regular Greenlink riders for their help in relieving congestion on Greenville roadways. “Transportation is often cited as a barrier to many quality of life indicators, including job stability, continuing education and access to health care,” said Berry. “Greenville Heritage is proud to partner with Greenlink on this important initiative and we hope that Fare Free Friday will be a successful demonstration of how public-private partnerships provide greater quality of life for Greenville residents through improved access to jobs, education and healthcare.”
