Reyes and Suarez Among Red Sox Minor League Award Winners

The Boston Red Sox recently announced the winners of their annual Minor League Awards, and a pair of members of the 2018 Greenville Drive were recognized.

Right-handed pitcher Denyi Reyes continues his award-laden 2018 season with his selection as the Red Sox Minor League Pitcher of the Year. His historic campaign also included the South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Year award, the first such honor in Drive history. Reyes finished the season 12-5 with a 1.97 ERA overall between Greenville and Salem with 145 strikeouts to just 19 walks over 155 2/3 innings pitched. His highlight of the season was a complete game shutout in Columbia on May 27th, the first complete game shutout in Drive history.

Infielder/outfielder Kervin Suarez was recognized by the Red Sox as the Baserunner of the Year. Suarez played the entire 2018 season in Greenville at just 19 years old, and he led the Drive with 25 stolen bases in 31 attempts, a total that ranked second in the Boston organization. Suarez also led the Drive with 119 games played, 110 hits and 71 runs scored.

In addition, former Drive third baseman Bobby Dalbec (2017) was recognized for his monster season by being named the Red Sox Offensive Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year. Dalbec was just selected as the 2018 Carolina League MVP, and between Salem and AA-Portland, he smacked 32 homers, which ranked fourth in all of Minor League Baseball. He also ranked second in the minors with 109 RBI and 70 extra-base hits.
