The Greenville Drive’s tough weekend continued on Sunday afternoon, as the Kannapolis Intimidators ran away with an 11-1 victory to complete a four-game sweep. The Drive’s losing streak now sits at nine games.
The Drive (3-14) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third as Ramfis Berroa singled and later scored on an error, but the Intimidators (11-6) scored four runs in the fourth to take the lead. With the bases loaded and nobody out, Craig Dedelow dropped a two-run double into left to make the score 2-1. Two batters later, Tate Blackman singled to center to plate two more.
Kannapolis tagged Drive starter Jhonathan Diaz (1-2) for another run in the fifth on a fielder’s choice to extend the lead to 5-1.
A four-run sixth featured RBI singles by Laz Rivera, Tyler Frost and Justin Yurchak, as well as a sacrifice fly by Johan Cruz.
The scoring concluded in the eighth following a solo homer by Frost and an RBI hit by Dedelow.
Lincoln Henzman (1-2) got the win for Kannapolis after holding the Drive to two hits and one unearned run in six innings with four strikeouts.
Devon Fisher threw an inning and two-thirds of scoreless relief for the Drive on Sunday. Pedro Castellanos logged his second straight two-hit game to lead the offense.
The Drive return home on Monday night to begin a four-game series with the Augusta GreenJackets, an affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, at 7:05 PM. Right-hander Kutter Crawford (0-1, 3.21) will take the mound for Greenville.
