Greenville County Schools to Lead Youth Leadership Greenville Program

The Greenville Chamber’s Youth Leadership Greenville program will transition to Greenville County Schools’ leadership beginning with the 2018-2019 class.

For the past twelve years, the Greenville Chamber has led Youth Leadership Greenville, an initiative modeled after the Chamber’s signature leadership program, Leadership Greenville. The 10-month program was designed for Upstate high school juniors to bring awareness of the Upstate’s opportunities, challenge them to become engaged citizens and prepare them to serve in leadership positions in our community.

This transition aligns with Greenville County School’s mission to provide educational experiences, in cooperation with the home and community, that prepare students for lifelong learning and for ethical, productive participation in a democratic society and the global community.

While continuing to serve in a support role to the Youth Leadership Greenville program, the transition will enable the Greenville Chamber to focus energies on developing current Upstate professionals through programs such as Leadership Greenville, Opportunity Greenville, Pulse Young Professionals and Ignite Corporate Leadership Days.

“We created the Youth Leadership Greenville program twelve years ago because we recognized how impactful the program could be in engaging our future leaders and helping our business community retain young talent,” says Greenville Chamber President/CEO, Carlos Phillips. He adds, “We feel that Greenville County Schools is perfectly positioned to continue delivering transformative experiences for high school students.”

Since inception, over 500 high school juniors have graduated from Youth Leadership Greenville. Students meet monthly on topics such as Greenville’s history, leadership development, human services, college and career workshops, etiquette and local government.
