Drive and Michelin Team Up for HBCU Classic

On Friday, April 20th, the Drive and an outstanding team of Upstate Diversity and Inclusion Champions will be welcoming fans of all ages to the HBCU Classic at Fluor Field, presented by Michelin, North America.

Friday marks the 7th annual celebration of HBCUs and the historic legacy of Jackie Robinson at Fluor Field, and this exciting day will include pep bands, postgame fireworks and much more entertainment for fans of all ages.

“We are as excited as ever about the 2018 edition of the HBCU Classic at Fluor Field,” said Leesa Owens, Michelin’s Director of Community Relations. “This day allows us to share with the next generation the importance of diversity and inclusion among all walks of life, and we are thrilled to team up with the Drive for this special event.”

The on-field action will feature a doubleheader. In game one, the Clark Atlanta University Panthers will take on the Morehouse College Fighting Maroon Tigers at 3:00 PM. The nightcap will showcase a pair of HBCUs from the Palmetto State, as the Benedict College Tigers will be opposed by the Claflin University Panthers at 7:00 PM. The best seats in the ballpark are only $8, and to ensure that every student can be part of this special experience, all students K-12 will be admitted free.

With pep bands on hand for the HBCU Classic, the action at Fluor Field will have a special feel unlike any other baseball game. Representatives from all four institutions will be on hand to participate in pre-game ceremonies, and the Drive and Red Sox have a Jackie Robinson tribute planned during the evening.

Following the second game, fans are invited to stick around for a special edition of postgame fireworks.

“The HBCU Classic is a highlight of the Drive’s and Michelin’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, which make this a very special day for our organizations,” said Drive Owner and Team President Craig Brown. “These schools are making such a positive impact on the lives of countless individuals, and to combine that celebration with the immeasurable impact on baseball made by Jackie Robinson will bring the community together for an unforgettable experience.”
