Expanded Trolley System is Now Operational

Mayor White recently joined the Greenville Transit Authority board of directors, city officials, and neighborhood and business leaders for a ceremony to celebrate the official launch of the expanded trolley system.

The expanded service, which includes four routes – Arts WestAugustaHeart of Main and Top of Main – is now operational.

Expansion of the trolley system resulted from the enormous popularity of the existing downtown route, which transported 118,000 passengers in 2016. With the goal of expanding service beyond the Central Business District, Greenlink purchased two additional trolleys and devised three new routes to provide access to restaurants, retail, parks and leisure activities. They also modified the existing Main Street route to better complement the new routes. Greenlink then worked with the City’s Public Works Department and the South Carolina Department of Transportation to identify and install safe trolley stop locations for the new routes.

The Arts West and Augusta routes are funded in part by hospitality tax revenue, which must be used for tourism-related services. These two routes will operate seasonally during the months of May-October. The Heart of Main and Top of Main routes will operate year round. Operating days and hours for all four routes are:

  • Thursdays, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Fridays, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Sundays, from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.
