Upstate HR Group to Hold Benefit Golf Tournament to Fund Scholarships

The Greenville Society of Human Resource Managers will host their annual benefit golf tournament to raise funds for the SHRM Foundation on Wednesday, October 22 at Carolina Springs Golf Club in Fountain Inn.

Individual players and foursomes are invited to participate.

The Andy Bindewald GSHRM Golf Tournament honors longtime GSHRM member and tournament organizer W.A. (Andy) Bindewald Jr. who passed away after a lengthy illness shortly prior to the 2013 tournament he had organized for more than two decades to benefit GSHRM’s charitable causes.

“This marks more than two decades of success for this GSHRM tournament, but is really our first year that we have held it without the leadership of Andy Bindewald,” said Ed Parris, President of Phillips Staffing and chairman for the 2014 tournament. “We hope for a very strong turnout of players from across the Upstate who want to enjoy a fun and casual tournament event at the beautiful Carolina Springs Golf Club.”

The tournament annually attracts golfers from across the Upstate who seek to enjoy a casual-yet-competitive golfing event at very low cost and with a worthy cause receiving the proceeds. Largely underwritten by sponsors, golfers can register as individuals or in foursomes, and do not have to be GSHRM members to participate. The $50 fee per golfer ($200 per foursome) covers all costs including golf, cart, lunch, post-event reception, range balls, and raffle tickets for donated prizes, and all proceeds from the tournament go to the GSHRM Foundation. The non-profit Foundation advances global human capital knowledge and practice by providing thought leadership and educational support, including scholarships and research grants.

“Golfers always enjoy this tournament at Carolina Springs,” added Bob Hunt, golf tournament co-chairman. “The beautiful facilities, enjoyable course, helpful staff and wonderful hospitality make this one of the area’s favorite tournaments, and we are delighted to bring our players to Fountain Inn once again.”

The tournament will begin with a check-in and registration starting at 11:30 a.m. followed by lunch and a 1 p.m. shotgun start. Awards, prizes and the reception will follow completion of the tournament in the Carolina Springs clubhouse.

Parris invited golf enthusiasts of all ages to register for the tournament while spaces still remain. “Our focus is to bring together diverse members of the community to join with our GSHRM members for an afternoon of fun and fellowship, to celebrate Andy’s memory and contributions, and to generate needed funds for the SHRM Foundation,” he added. “We have plenty of playing spots available this year to ensure a fun and leisurely golfing experience for all registrants. Our focus is on making this the very best golf tournament that we possibly can.”
