Greenville High School and JL Mann High School students raised more than $350,000 in one week. During their spirit week Greenville High students collected more than $206,000 for Make a Wish South Carolina.
Mann students raised more than $151,000 for the Center For Developmental Services. This week Eastside High School begins its spirit week to benefit “with purpose” a fund to conquer childhood cancer and Wade Hampton High School’s spirit week will benefit “Project Hope”.
All three schools are part of a pilot program at Greenville County Schools to offer a donate button on their website. The donate button lets donors securely contribute while allowing students to focus on their charity and not money handling.
Friday at noon representative from all fourteen Greenville County high schools will hear from Secretary of State Mark Hammond. Hammond will discuss strategies for choosing charities wisely.
“I cannot tell you how proud I am of our Student Council, student body, faculty, staff, parents and community members. To raise over $150,000 for the Center for Developmental Services in just a week’s time is amazing. This is a prime example of what can be accomplished when people come together for a common goal,” said Charles Mayfield, Principal of JL Mann High.
Greenville High Principal Jason Warren said, “I am incredibly proud of the hard work of Greenville High School’s Student Council, student body, parents, staff and community that came together to support such a worthy cause as Make a Wish SC. Communities that work together can accomplish great things, and Greenville High was an example of that this week.”
