Travelers Rest High to Fund Honor Flight

Students at Travelers Rest High School raised more than $30,000 this spring for the non-profit group Honor Flight. Honor Flights pay for veterans of World War II and Korea to fly to Washington D.C. free of charge.

The funds raised will pay for ninety veterans to fly to Washington on Tuesday, April 19. The flight leaves at approximately 7:00 am.

Each veteran travels with an assistant who pays their own way. Four students at Travelers Rest High have signed up to be guardians, including student body president Emma Reaney.

“With this being the second time that our school has chosen Honor Flights as the Spirit Week Charity, I believed it would be the greatest opportunity to go on the flight that our school sponsored. After meeting the veteran that I will be a guardian for, I am beyond thrilled to spend the entire day with him and I am so thankful for others like him who have sacrificed so much for our country,” Reaney said.

When the Honor Flight Returns to GSP the Travelers Rest High School band and student council will be there to greet them

“Their interest in the veterans and their history and being patriotic Americans is commendable,” said Honor Flight Director Paul Howell. “The kids at Travelers Rest High understand why we are free and why they can go to school and not worry about safety is because of the veterans who offered their lives in sacrifice for our country.”
