The Shoestring Players at the University of South Carolina Upstate recently announced its 2009-2010 season. All shows will be performed in the Humanities and Performing Arts Center Theatre on the USC Upstate campus.
The Shoestring Players will perform "You Can�t Take It With You" on October 1-3 at 8:00 p.m. and October 4 at 3:00 p.m. You Can't Take It with You , a Pulitzer Prize-winning comedic play written by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart, tells the story of young Alice Sycamore and her struggle to blend her family with that of her beau Tony Kirby. At first the Sycamores seem mad, but it is not long before you realize that if they are mad, then the rest of the world is madder. Ticket prices are $4 for staff and students and $6 for general public. Leading Ladies will be performed on November 12-14 at 8:00 p.m. and November 15 at 3:00 p.m. Auditions will be held on Monday, October 5 at 7:00 p.m. This Ken Ludwig comedy is about two English Shakespearean actors, Jack and Leo, who find themselves so down on their luck that they are performing "Scenes from Shakespeare" on the Moose Lodge circuit in the Amish country of Pennsylvania. When they hear that an old lady in York, PA is about to die and leave her fortune to her two long lost English nephews, they resolve to pass themselves off as her beloved relatives and get the cash. The trouble is, when they get to York, they find out that the relatives aren't nephews, but nieces! Ticket prices are $4 for staff and students and $6 for general public. The season ends with the production of The Full Monty on February 15-17 at 8:00 p.m. and February 18 at 3:00 p.m. Auditions will be held on Tuesday, February 9 at 7:00 p.m. Adapted from the screenplay by four-time Tony Award winning Terrence McNally and with an award- winning score by David Yazbek, The Full Monty is a poignant and lively story that captivated Broadway audiences and critics alike. It tells the story of six unemployed, out of shape steel mill workers from Buffalo, New York, who need to pick up some extra cash. After seeing the popularity of a male stripper among the local women, the men decide to put on a strip show of their own. Their gimmick is simple: they will do the full Monty � strip completely naked on stage. This plan forces the men to come to terms with their own fears of inadequacy, both physically and as providers for their families. Ticket prices are $5 for staff and students and $7 for general public.
