Meals on Wheels of Greenville Hosted Sweetheart Charity Ball

Meals on Wheels of Greenville hosted its 20th annual Sweetheart Charity Ball on Saturday, February 7 at the beautiful Hyatt Regency Downtown, raising funds that will provide more than 40,000 meals for the homebound in Greenville County.

To commemorate the event’s 20th anniversary, all twenty Sweethearts of the years past were honored. The annual Sweetheart of the Year award distinguishes a person or couple who goes above and beyond to support Meals on Wheels and the Greenville Community. The Sweetheart gives selflessly, not only to support Meals on Wheels and its mission, but to other organizations across our community that provide support services for those in need.

“We are grateful to all our donors and volunteers who devote so much of their time and resources to help support and carry out the mission of Meals on Wheels,” said Executive Director, Catriona Carlisle. “Nearly 150 volunteers deliver about 1,500 meals a day to those who cannot prepare meals for themselves. It is so gratifying to see so many people working together to serve others.”

The Sweetheart Ball began at 6:30 pm with a 118 silent auction packages up for bid, 6 live auction items that included a trip to Rome, a Harley Davidson Motorcycle and an opportunity to sail on an America’s Cup yacht across the San Francisco Bay. Over 500 guests enjoyed cocktails, heavy hors d’oeuvres, a three course dinner, live entertainment and dancing.

Since the event’s inception, BB&T has been the presenting sponsor, helping to provide more than 84,000 meals over the event’s twenty-year history. “At BB&T, we’re dedicated to building strong communities by supporting meaningful causes. That’s why we’re proud to support organizations like Meals on Wheels!”
