Join Hollywild for its Annual International Earth Day Celebration on Saturday

Across the world, many celebrate Earth Day on April 22nd but others choose to celebrate International Earth day on the day of the vernal equinox, which is the date used by the United Nations. In 2010 this happens at 1:32 PM Eastern Daylight Time on March 20th. The basic idea behind a March celebration (usually falling on the first day of Spring (U.S.) is that it correlates to the date that the length of the day is equal to the length of night all around the world. Though technically there is a variation on the idea depending on where you stand around the world at specific moments on the day, the main idea is one of unity across the globe, benefitting the world.

“This is a time when we really promote how connected we are to the world at large and how each one of us has the ability and responsibility to make a difference for the future,” explained outreach coordinator Linda M. Poole.

Special events for the day begin in the parking lot where a “Recycled Treasures” yard sale will be held. Inside the park, in addition to visits with animals from six different continents, the Pavilion will be the site for free African Art crafting adventures and music appreciation.

Representatives from the following organizations will also have informational displays and representatives on-site:

* Spartanburg County Soil & Water Conservation
* Watershed Ecology Center
* FENCE – Foothills Equestrian Nature Center
* Spartanburg County Humane Society
* Upstate Forever
* Girl Scouts : Rainforest Display
* Boy Scouts: Conservation Display

African-themed shopping will be available in the Pavilion and Zoovenir Shop. Pony rides, petting zoo, and concessions will also be inside the park.

For the March “Sneak Preview” discounted admission rates ($8 adults, $6 children 2 -12) park visitors will receive even more than the opportunity to connect with wildlife from around the world.
