Homes of Hope Announced as 2015 Rose Ball Beneficiary

The Charity Ball Board of Greenville has announced the beneficiaries for the 2015 Rose Ball. The Ball will be held on September 18, 2015 at the Poinsett Club.

The theme for this year’s event is “Origin of the Rose.”

The Rose Ball is Greenville’s longest-running charitable community event, featuring more than 4,000 roses and providing funding for many Greenville charitable organizations biennially. Fifty percent of the proceeds will benefit Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital and the remaining 50% will benefit the following:

• Homes of Hope
• Cancer Society of Greenville County
• Family Effect
• Greenville Free Medical Clinic, Inc.
• Greenville Health System
• A Child’s Haven
• Julie Valentine Center
• Meals on Wheels of Greenville, Inc.
• Pendleton Place Inc.
• Project Hope Foundation
• Safe Harbor, Inc.
• Salvation Army of Greenville County
• Triune Mercy Center
• United Ministries

Funds designated to Homes of Hope will support programs of affordable housing and job training for men overcoming addictions.  The grant will help transform the lives of men overcoming addictions from drainers of our community to newly productive husbands, fathers, and leaders. This gift will also allow Homes of Hope to continue to revitalize formerly blighted communities with affordable housing that produces safe, vibrant neighborhoods filled with diverse and thriving families.

“The Rose Ball has come to be known as one of Greenville’s most elegant events,” said Ben Rook, the chairman of the Charity Ball Board. “This event continues to grow and we are very excited about our 2015 event. We are thrilled to be working with these fifteen charities which work to make Greenville a better place every day.”

“With so many wonderful charitable organizations in Greenville, selection of beneficiaries is a challenging task,” said Kimberly Cooley, the co-chair of the Beneficiaries Committee for the 2015 Rose Ball. “A diverse committee comprised of business and community leaders analyzes the applications of Greenville‐area nonprofit organizations and we select organizations that will use the funding for specific needs or programs, endowments or capital campaigns and direct services benefitting individuals in the community.”

The first Rose Ball, held September 24, 1971, started a long and valued legacy of fundraising to support many projects and programs that were in need in the local community. Over the past 43 years, the Rose Ball has raised more than $2.6 million to benefit the physical, emotional, educational and cultural needs of the people of Greenville. Held biennially, the ball has established a reputation of being one of the most beautiful and elegant affairs in the Southeast. As part of the tradition that began in a garden, hundreds of home-grown roses are donated from the gardens of Greenville for each event.
